About Entertaiment

The word entertainment can be used to describe any activity that provides diversion, relaxation or pleasure to an audience. It is a broad category that includes activities such as watching films, playing games, social gatherings, and recreational sports. It also encompasses the creative and artistic processes that produce these activities.

It is important to remember that what might be entertaining for one person or group of people might not be for another. This has often been demonstrated in the cross-over between different media and demonstrates that there is a seemingly unlimited potential for creative remix.

late 15c., from Middle English entretenement (“support, maintenance”), from Old French entretenir, from the prefix inter- + tenir (from Latin tenere “to hold”; PIE root *ten- “to stretch”) + mentum (“thing produced by action”). Sense of “gratify, amuse” is 1620s.
