Career Opportunities in the Business Services Sector of GlobalEDGE
The Business services sector is an industry that offers a wide variety of non-financial support functions to businesses and organizations. It encompasses an extremely broad range of industries that include consulting, marketing, advertising, waste management, staffing services, travel, shipping and administration. Nearly every business in existence requires these types of services to operate. The career opportunities in this field are plentiful and highly lucrative for individuals with the right skillset.
The five characteristics that distinguish a business service from other types of products and commodities are: Intangibility: Business services do not take the form of a tangible product, they cannot be touched or seen. This is in contrast to goods, which can be stocked and stored for future use. Involvement: Because the customer plays a key role in service delivery, satisfaction levels can be greatly influenced by their level of involvement and interaction with the provider. The lack of physicality also means that business services cannot be consumed by other business customers, but must be accessed directly by the consumer.
Specialized Expertise: Outsourcing a business service allows companies to access expertise that would be difficult or impossible to build in-house. This can be critical in overcoming challenges or gaining competitive advantage. Cost-Effectiveness: In many cases, outsourcing a business service can be more cost-effective than maintaining an in-house team. Scalability: Business services can be adjusted based on a company’s needs, providing flexibility and allowing it to grow or scale down as needed.
In a world of increasing globalization and increased competition, it is increasingly important for businesses to understand and implement business services that provide competitive advantages. In order to do this, they need to be able to manage their own service supply chains and create a culture that is focused on customer satisfaction and building value for the company.
A key part of this is the creation of a service management function that can monitor and control all aspects of the business’s internal and external service processes. In this way, the business can gain visibility into the effectiveness of its service operations and identify areas that may need improvement or additional attention.
The Business Services page in globalEDGE displays a default set of dashboards that can help you get started with your business service management.
