Is the Daily News a Reliable Source of News?

Daily News

The New York Daily News is a morning tabloid newspaper based in the city of New York. Founded in 1919, it was the first American daily printed in tabloid format and remains the ninth most widely read newspaper in the United States with a circulation of just under 200,000 copies per day. It is currently owned by Tronc, the publishing operations of Tribune Company. It is also a founding member of the American Newspaper Publishers Association (ANPA).

The Daily News is often described as more sensational than its rival, the New York Post. Its content includes politics, crime and social commentary, as well as lurid photographs and cartoons. It was a leader in using wire photo services and developed an extensive staff of photographers. It was one of the first newspapers to cover World War I and covered the Teapot Dome scandal, a political wrongdoing, in the 1920s. It also covered social intrigue, such as the romance between Wallis Simpson and King Edward VIII that led to his abdication.

In recent years the Daily News has exhibited a liberal-to-moderately left-wing editorial bias and has been contrasted with the conservative-leaning New York Post. However, it still has a very strong record of Factual Reporting and a high overall Reader Rating.

Readers of the New York Daily News have been taking to Twitter to express their anger at a cartoon depicting Mayor Bill de Blasio as a tourist. It is not clear whether the Daily News will remove the cartoon. It is the latest in a string of cartoons that have riled readers since Heath Freeman’s Alden Global Capital hedge fund took over Tribune Publishing, the parent company of the Daily News, last year.

While many people are happy with the current ownership of the Daily News, others have expressed concerns over its future direction and independence. Several of the top editorial writers have already left the paper. The newspaper has also trimmed its staff and outsourced its printing plant, among other changes.

Is the Daily News a reliable source of news?

The NY Daily News is not a reliable source of news. It has a very strong liberal bias and has been accused of lying and twisting facts. Its website is clunky and frustrating to use. It takes forever to find a story you are interested in reading.

I approach all news sources with the understanding that they release output that has intrinsic biases. Whether that bias is in the form of a news event being reported or in how the story is written. The person who writes the story is tasked with taking dry facts and making them engaging for a wide audience. That makes it extremely difficult to be unbiased.

I would prefer to have my news from a more neutral source like the New York Times. The Times does a much better job of reporting the news in an impartial manner. Unlike the Daily News, the Times is not controlled by a billionaire who has a clear agenda and a vision for the newspaper.
